Something new.
May. 4th, 2005 10:23 pmTonight I finished off an anglo-saxon peplos to wear at crown on saturday. I also strung 2 new sets of beads to wear with it. I used beads I had been given at A&S displays supplimented with a few I bought at pennsic last year. It looks pretty nifty. The fabric of the peplos is marginal but the color blue is nice. I used a narrow trim that matches the fabric exactly and even looks sort of tablet woven even if it is thin. I will be presentable if not totally authentic.
The old budget is stretched thin and replacing all of my stash at one time with wools and linens just ain't happenin' anytime soon. I am on the look out for good deals though. I enjoy making garb and I do try to make it look like it's supposed to within my budget. I want to start card weaving again so that I can make my own trim. I learned about 18 years ago and made two successful belts. So I know I can do it.
I like to search photo archives for what others have made to get ideas and see what others are doing. It is very enlightening. Now that new costume books are coming out and old excellent ones are being reprinted making garb that looks right has gotten easier.
My next coveted item is a dress form for me. I'm tired of struggling to fit garb and hem the darn stuff by myself. I looking to be able to order one come my birthday in June. That will make my sewing endevors so much easier!
Ah well, off to bed to dream of sewing and needlework and tablet weaving!
