Whew! Our first year as homeschoolers is now over. Paul learned stuff and we did not kill each other! Yeah!

Paul did well and got decent grades overall. His final's all went well except for Biology which he passed with a "D". He is not the least bit interested in Biology so he felt no need to retain the information he learned all year. Thank goodness he earned strong "B's" all semester so the final grade was not a big deal.

I am thankful his orthopedic surgery last fall did not put him too far off schedule. I am positive the reason is because we homeschooled. We could adjust his schedule to how he was feeling and we still got everything done. Paul has always been a fast healer and a good sport about all of his discomforts and he just got on with it.

The Algebra went very well but we won't use Saxon math again. Paul felt it was very dry. Don't get me wrong he learned his Algebra II very well. Paul just felt the text could have been more interesting. I'm going to try Abecka for Geometry this year.

We will also be sending Paul to the Community College for his Chemistry lab work in the fall. I do not want to deal with those labs at home this time. Course work yes, lab work no. Biology labs were okay since we used a kit. The CC really works hard to support homeschoolers in Baltimore County. I was pleasantly surprised!

For Literature/English we are going to participate in the Medusa exam again. I think secretly the kids had a good time though they won't admit it. We have also been invited to particiapte in a Shakespeare study group for two plays that will be shown at the Folgers.

I want Paul to do US Government next but I have no idea yet what curriculum I'm going to use.

Homeschooling was a learning experience for us both. Paul would like to go back to school and we would not mind if he went back to school but we do not qualify for a special permission transfer to a school other than our home area school. He is NOT going there if I can help it. So home school it is. This fall we will try again to apply to a Magnet HS with a math program for 11th grade.

Oh and then I need to win the lottery so my talented daughter can go to MICA all four years.

Sigh, the booklet I got when my children were born DID NOT explain all this.
