St Urho's Day Pilgrimage
Mar. 20th, 2007 07:10 amI am back from my 4 day, pilgrimage to the Canton of Salesbery Glenn for their St.Urho's Day Tournament.
Except for the fact that it rained the ENTIRE 7 hour drive from MD to NC, Saturday was clear and bright if very cold due to wind. When the wind did not blow it was actually warm but the wind is what killed us. Fortunately they had a heated hall (yea!) and it was very nice. This only proves to me that I need a new cloak with fuzzy lining. It was very fun and I plan to try to go next year.
They had a turn out of about 60 people which was pretty good considering this is the first year this event has been held on a Saturday as a real paid event. In the past Sir Axel sponsored the event on Sundays as part of the Cantons Sunday Fighter Practice. I think this is a great first event for this group and can grow to be their signature event if they so choose.
This was the first time I trotted out my Baronial presence and I think it worked quite well. It consisted of my 10x10 pop-up day shade with the new corner walls in black fabric. I sewed channels in the fabric for the legs to go into and it hid their spindly metal-ness very well. I do need to sew on black ties about half way down the leg covers so that the corners can be tied back. On Saturday I used some old rope and 1) these did not look as attractive and 2) because they were not attached they tended to slide down. I will fix this problem this week. I also want to sew drapery weights to the bottom of each to help these walls to hang nicer. Barre and Cordelia lent me their black and white squared ground cover and with the baronial banner hanging in the back the whole thing looked very nice. I would give this a thumbs up!
I should be getting ready for work so that is all I have for now.
