Bobbin Lace Class is finally here!
Apr. 6th, 2007 08:53 amTomorrow I am sponsoring a bobbin lace class at my home. It is being taught by Lady Órlaith Carey.
Today sees me winding my bobbins to prepare for the class, clean the house, go to Sam's Club for paper goods and snacks and vaccume up as much dog hair as I can.
I took bobbin lace classes when I lived in England and I liked it a lot. I enjoyed the mental "zone" that your brain goes into when you get going and concentrating on the work. I'd like to take it up again so that I can have the "zone" again and hand make lace yardage to give as largess.
During my tenur as Baroness I want to be able to recognise and honor people who do good works or those who may have already received awards for being good at what they do. I have decided to do the medieval thing and give largess but I do not want to just give trinkets. I want the largess to be useful and nice to have. In period largess would be things from the Nobility to their Subjects, such as passed on clothing items, caps, gloves, stockings, hats, purses, jewelry, armor etc.
Yes, I could easily just buy some of these things but I want to give a personal item and the best way is to make it myself. So, I make a nice gift to give and two people benefit- the very Cool Person who's inherent Coolness I want to honor and me when I get to make the object!
I am SUCH a craft geek, I might as well use it for the forces of Good! Hehehe!
