martelvonc: (Golden Rose)
Last weekend I went down with many others to the Golden Rose Tournament. This event honored Atlantia's Ladies of the Rose.

Each Rose who participated fielded a team consisting of 1 knight, 2 unbelted fighters (who fought together), 1 rapier fighter, 1 archer and a herald. We processed to Their Majesties in order of the Roses from when they were Queen. Our heralds announced us and made all sorts of wild claims and introductions. Much fun was had here.

I had the honor of being asked to shoot for Countess Anneka, who happened to be Queen when I was invested as Baroness of Bright Hills! Too cool!

All the teams were called to the list field for instructions. It was announced that the archers would be shooting and as we shot the fighters should prepare themselves. Then Duke Cuan spoke up and said that instead everyone should go down to the archery field and support their archer as they shot. I really liked this. It meant a lot to me to know my team members were there cheering me on. Archery, due to it's very nature, for safety reasons, has to be away from the rest of the event and to have everyone there at the range was great. We shot two one minute timed rounds and our scores seeded the tournament places for the rest of the team. This was very cool.

Only dissapointing part was that was the only shooting we did. I would have like to have been able to contribute more to our team effort. The fighters got to compete all day and we archers were done right at the beginning. Not a bad thing, I'd just liked to have had our list last longer.

Another really neat thing they did, was as we competed we were called by our Roses name. It made us all feel like a real team.

That said, I thought the whole event was well run and a great concept. I hope it is held again next year. I know I'd go. So many events are the same week after week and to have such a fresh idea was great!

Two members of my barony were recognized for all they do and thier talents on the list field. Lord Stephen Bridewell was made a White Scarf and Lord Kollack von Zweckel was made a Kraken. Another reason why I'm very glad I was there.

My one less than brilliant moment came when I gave myself a migraine. You heard right, a self inflicted headache. Early that morning I tied my hair up so it would stay out of my face as I shot. My hair was TOO tight hense the migraine. I should have known better. It was a real Homer Simpson moment. Fortunately Lady Katarzyna had ibuprofen with her, I took 800mg and in about 40 min I was pretty much back to normal but I did have to cover my eyes to block out the light. Doh!

The headache not withstanding, I enjoyed this event immensely.
