Ah Archery, it's good for what ails ya!
Jun. 29th, 2009 09:23 amThe shoot yesterday was a hoot!
I can now say the sooper sekrit target material was Swedish Flat Bread! It is round and has a nice hole in the center.
The shoot was to hit the hole for 5 points, hit the 2" cardboard edge for 3 points or zero if you missed all together. If you broke the flat bread you were out.
I had decided a couple of days ago that if your arrow bounced off the flat bread but did not break it then it was "a sign from God" and you could still advance. Little did I know that God would take such an interest in our shoot! LOL!! The only problem was that it refused to shatter! The arrows went right through and made a hole but no crack!
Because Katarzyna and I had worked out that each archer would shoot only 3 arrows each round, I worked out the words for the MP Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to tell the rules of the shoot....
ME: And Saint Attila raised the Holy Arrow up on high, saying,
’O Lord, bless this thy arrows that with them thou mayest HIT the target in the proper spots, in thy mercy.’
And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu—
KATARZYNA: Skip a bit, Sister.
ME: And the Lord spake, saying,
‘First shalt thou take out the Holy Arrows.
Then, shalt shoot three, no more, no less.
Three shalt be the number thou shalt shoot, and the number of the counting shall be three.
Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.
Five is right out.
Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then thou art done shooting the Holy Arrows towards the Evil target, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.’
The weather held out for us and it did not begin to sprinkle until about 4:30.
Now the planning begins for the "SECOND Annual Sven and Olley Memorial Archery Accuracy Challenge".
Katazyna and I have it all worked out but we need to continue to collect broken arrows.
Be afraid be very afraid.
