Wood smooth as a baby's bottom!
Sep. 17th, 2009 08:11 pmThis past weekend I was generously gifted with the cut out parts to my very own marudai. Saves me $120.00 it does!
Some of our string artisans worked with the Bright Hills Woodworkers guild to cut out the parts so that everyone who wanted a marudai could have one. When the work was done they had extra parts for one more and shared them with me!
The parts came sanded down smooth but need the final extra fine sanding and a finish so that the silk threads will not catch as I work. I'm sitting here sanding with sand paper from 150 grit up to 600 grit. The oak is coming up a treat.
My dad was a professional woodworker specializing in Shaker furniture reproductions and specialty horse racing furniture/storage etc. My Dad never made me anything, even when I got married. The few pieces I own of his work I pulled from his old shop stock. I appreciate that these folks thought of me when they were making their own projects two weeks ago.
So I sand and sand and sand some more!
