Pennsic sewing....

Everyone else listing their madness so I'll chime in with my next to impossible list of pre-pennsic planning.

Projects to do-
1) hem the new under tunic Dame Olwen the Odd made for me. DONE!
2)take the hood off of my old wool cloak and put quilt binding on the edge instead.
This wool cloak is SO OLD it's nearly twice as old as my son but it's in great shape except for a bit of cosmetic work. It needs a new cloak clasp/penanular broach that I hope to purchase at Pennsic.
3) hem the sleeves of a tunic I made for The Knight that I will bring for me as a spare. DONE!
4) take in a blue tube dress that is just way too wide. (seemed like a good idea at the time.) DELETING
I've got other bits and bobs I want to make instead.
5) finish pearling the edge of a silk veil. DONE!
6) stain & seal my oak chair. Materials are all bought I just need to do it. DONE!

UPDATE* 7) Hem vigil gown to wear as a nice under dress for my blue viking or my black viking. DONE!

Maybe I might try to-
1)make another plain linen veil. DONE!
2)paint baronial arms on a pilgrim bag I have.
3)make one more colored under dress to have a spare to change out with other over tunics.
4)make one white linen viking coif DONE!
5)make one hood
5)make one simple over gown.

UPDATE* with Jeanmaire's and Mari's help I was able to complete a silk wimple also! Yea!!

There we go! I've already started to pack things in the truck. I've also started to pack garb in the bin as I get it ready. Tonight will see me working on the bins that will carry my other camping gear and starting the last minute shopping list.

And I'm not leaving until August 4th at O-dark thirty in the morning.

Well... Ms Over Achiever... I will be taking stock when we unload to see what you accomplished. :)

LOL! Don't be too impressed, most of list #1 is "sit in front of the TV" handwork. It's all kind of half done I just need to get my butt in gear and finish it.

The Maybe is list is REALLY a maybe though I could use the coif and the veil for sure.

uh huh - The 'Maybe' list is probably pretty close to a probably. The most time consuming part is cutting for me. (well I have someone else do my cutting at the moment.)

I am being a 'wanton women' again .. no head coverings. (Well, I do have 'purchase a hat' on my list of things. So, I guess that counts.

And a 'pretty' circlet ... that's been on my list for several years. A friend was going to give me one, once. but that fell through the cracks.

Good luck... I pack on Sunday.

Total note aside.. what day can I bring Dawg over - I was hoping to leave right from work on Friday - but - that may not work. Not sure I can fit Dawg and my pennsic stuff at the same time. If I can then :) all is good. hmmm I need a car of holding I think.

When ever, somebody will be here every day.

I still have to go through my garb and figure out how much I need to sew! *wan grin*

Seriously, my cloak is made of thin wool cloth and it's got these little holes in it (and it's unlined). How should I take care of the little holes before they become bigger holes? Darn them? Patch them from the inside (perhaps with that iron-on stuff)? Patch them and then figure out how to line the cloak with some other material? Just wondering....

[identity profile] martelvonc.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Small holes was probably moths. You could "diaper" your cloak in small patches of an element from your arms to cover the holes. Everyone will be impressed with how fancy pants heraldic you are!

Great idea ... but ... where am I going to get all those five-pointed green mullets? Aaack!

take a star cookie cutter.. trace and cut and stitch... take it to a fighter practice and have someone help you trace, someone else help cut and than just stitch... many hands make light work...

stars are way easier than mine which would be either gold harps or white three tiered natural fountains... :) One of these days I'll get a sideless done with them around the hem... but I'm not holding my breath for it to be anytime soon.

Thanks ... I guess I would need to get some green wool and felt it, right??

could be... not real sure how to get the wool to the same weight as that which you have...I'm more of an idea person. :)
