Mistress Martelle von Charlottenburg, Baroness of Bright Hills

2. What time and where do you portray?
Lately, 10th century Norse.
(I love the jewelry and the clothes are very comfy)

3. In plain English describe your device.
A green backround with a straight gold border and 3 upside down gold scallop shells.

4. How long have you been in the SCA?
Since October of 1978

5. Do you have any special titles you have earned?
Mistress of the Laurel

6. What kingdom and local group do you belong to?
Kingdom of Atlantia, Barony of Bright Hills

7. Do you have preferred colors for your SCA Persona?
Green and Gold

8. What is your war that you look forward to going to every year?
Pennsic.

9. Do you hold any offices?
I am currently the Baroness of Bright Hills
but my favorite past offices were MOAS and Deputy for Tempore Atlantia.

10. Favorite memory from an event?
One of my very early events at the Cloisters Childrens Museum in Baltimore, MD. It was a fall event and the grounds were beautiful with the leaves on the ground and we had a feast outside in a small out building.

11. Are you a fighter? What kind?
I am planning on being a member of seige engine team and possible a combat archer.
But now I champion the arts & sciences so that they get the same respect and recognition at events that the martial arts do.

(No, we don't appreciate delegating the A&S announcements to feast while the martial arts get all thier glory in regular court. Maybe we should hold off announcing tourny winners until dinner. just sayin')

12. Are you crafty (making things)?
I love to make things and will give anything a go.

13. Do you teach classes at events?
Yes, whenever I can. I love to share my passion for the A&S.

14. Do you play instruments at events?
No. Unfortunately I don't know how to play any period instruments.

15. Do you dance at events?
Yes, sometimes I do.

16. Do you feel that there is enough flirting and chivalrous behavior in the SCA ?
There is never enough. I believe there is not nearly enough courtly/platonic love and flirting. Many people mistakenly intrepret courtly love with having to be physical love.
There can always be more Chivalrous behavior.

17. Are you a "Black Hat" or a "White Hat"?.
What?

18. What is one of the reasons you've remained in the SCA?
I love the ability to make things of the MIddle ages and then acutually use these things for real. I also love the people and some of my very best friends are in the SCA.

19. What peerage(s) do you aspire to?
Well, I was honored with the Laurel that I have now. I love the arts & sciences and am quite happy with the path my SCA career has taken.

20. Who was Crown when you joined the SCA?
In fact at my very first event a new K&Q were made, Bertrand and Allanda.

21. If you are a Peer, who was the Crown that elevated you?
Valharic and Ariele

22. Have you lived in more than 1 kingdom and which ones?
In order: East Kingdom, Atlantia, Drachenwald, and back to Atlantia

23. Have you helped found a group?
No, the groups I particiapted in were already established. Though I did work on the begginings of having the Barony of Myrkewood move from being East Kingdom to being Atlantia.

24. Have you had any house affiliations?
House Wulfherson, as the wife of a squire
House Taivassalama, as an apprentice
Haus Charlottenburg, our own household
