Come and join Haus Charlottenburg as we embark on the boxed macaroni and cheese diet.

The son just received his acceptance letter to UMBC.
I'm hoping the student aid packages will improve when you have two college students.

Congrats! Gosling#2 wants to know if he'll be dorming. Also, is he big and can he play rugby? That's my boy - always thinking! He's in Harbor this year, but that is for upper class. He also says, for the love of all that is holy DON'T go to Potomac - they had 3 separate homeless people show up at random times - in their beds, asleep. Now, the front desk people got royally chewed out an it doesn't happen anymore. But he still has a bad taste in his mouth about Potomac.

He has just left to go back to campus - but he wanted me to tell you this. He is available for conversation about what UMBC is like right now.

Thanks!
I'm starting to panic a little over how we are going to pay for all this though. :-( We're already in up to our eyeballs for Erica.

Yes, we'll let him dorm at least the first two years.

MICA's housing got to be too expensive so Erica rides the subway in to Baltimore 3 days a week.

Nah, Paul is kinda of tall and skinny. Maybe they could use him like a stick to trip up the other players....

No Potomac, check.

Yup, kids suck up money like a black hole.

Tall and skinny might do for a hooker.

That's the guy in the middle of the scrum being held by the tight and loose end props who is trying to hook the ball back out of the scrum with his feet.

Um, I thought it was the students who are supposed to eat boxed mac-and-cheese, not the parents. :-)

Congrats!

It's us, after all the loans are in our names. :-)
I might live on the edge and get Spam once in a while!

Erica has one small one herself but make no mistake about it, the deal is that she's going to pay us back the difference between what MICA cost and what a state university would have only cost us.

Erica gives us part of her paycheck now towards the current loan payment even though hers will not be due until she graduates.

I'm such a meany! :-)

Nah, its good for her - teach her money management now so when she suddenly goes from a low income position to a salary. And she will be relatively debt free in terms of credit history. Good choices.

"Nah, its good for her - teach her money management now "

That was my thought. My parents didn't teach us about finances on the premise that the family finances were none of our business as kids.
(yea, huh?)

It took me years of trying to figure it out on my own with alot of money wasted. I'm trying to help my kids start out more savvy than I did.

Congratulations to the kidlet! Be sure and mix it up a bit and throw in a ramen dinner every now and again. ;)

No, no it's the *kids* that are supposed to exist on ramen Noodles and Mountain Dew, not you.

You will probably get a bit more in gov't loans. But it is amazing what they consider to be your contribution - If we didn't have some savings and educational bonds there was no way we could have paid the bills.

Our kids ended up with substantial loans to repay. Once we sell our house and move we'll pay them off for them. It never hurts for them to get a serious dose of reality....

Good Luck

P~

Yes, we are waiting for Diane to go to college for her room to be clean, also.

2 in College

Yep, I can relate. We had a real anxiety about it too til Christie got her scholarships notices.

Now it is a strange blend of feelings brought on by impending empty nest...swinging from "Wow, freedom like we have not had in 20 years!" to "Wow, our babies are growing up and we just aren't ready for it!"

Good luck with the FinAid and congrats to you and yours for two successful kids to college transitions.

Thanks!

I feel better now for deciding to home school Paul. Having him get good SAT scores and then be able to get into college makes me feel like I wasn't such a bad parent after all.

The first student loan on Paul won't really start to be repaid until next March. That gives us another year to pay on everything else. But heck I'm a worrier, amd my husband just ignores me.
