Blue Deel, Day four.

I have decided that with strong will and perseverance one could finish a lined deel in less than 10 hours from start to finish. This includes the handwork needed for hemming. They are comfy and dead easy to make. On top of that they are SCA period and depending on the time frame come in a variety of styles.

I am now waffling about adding the trim. I kind of like the way it looks right now. It's supposed to be an earlier style and from what I've seen in art work they aren't so highly decorated outside of court wear. I've still got 3 evenings left to do the hemming work and make a decision on the trim. But my gut instinct says leave it alone it looks fine.

My black boots need to be polished again but even they look like the art work I've seen. Yea Ebay!

The pearled headdress will not be done for Saturday. There just isn't time.

but yea! I'll have new garb!

Your del looks great! Mine is all cut out, with the lining sewn. It looks like we will be a symphony in blue. I had some nice brocade in my stash, a roll of fabric perfect to be cut into trim, and a half price piece of cheap brocade for a belt. But mine will be 100% (I think) machine sewn as this is a one off for me. I think you'll like the lining [G} I'll post a picture when I get it done.

I love this shade of blue and I am pleased with how much easier my drafted pattern went together over the commercial one. I have no idea where this fabric came from it's been in my stash for so long but there is still enough left to make another outfit.

God, I love a bargain! I haven't the time to hand sew entire garments but I do the important bits by hand.

You might be surprised to find out that when you wear it you'll want more, they are so comfortable. I have a couple more unlined ones planned for Pennsic.

These are great because even if you screw up and make it too big (like I did with my first one) you are still good because you layer deels for warmth and a big one goes over a closer fitting one like a coat.

Go with your gut - it is almost always right. You can always add something more later, but you will probably find that it stands on its own merits just fine. :)

(I have learned this through trial and error - the first instinct is usually the right one.)

I'd never seen such a thing before, but now you've got me looking at it as awesome nursing garb! Do you have a link of a whole garment being worn on a standing person so I can get a better look at the whole kit and kaboodle?
