This is because I am going to rid our basement of a black office chair in near perfect condition that no one sits in but was purchased from a U.S. guv-ern-mint surplus sale 15 years ago...because it was cheap.
My house is full of "but it was such a great deal I couldn't leave it behind!"

If you are a Fed employee you could be terminated and military personnel get a write up. And like Alice's Restaurant......pay a fine and pick up the trash.
Also you acquired it by lawful means so you may dispose of it as you see fit. The above is a worst case scenario.

Date: 2008-11-11 08:09 pm (UTC)It's kind of like those tags on mattress and pillows, it has a tag that says do not resell! I was like pfffttt if the goverment can buy 100 dollar hammers I can ditch a 5 dollar chair! ;-)
Re: speaking as a professional...
Date: 2008-11-11 10:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, the tag says do not resell. What they do not want you to do is buy 100 for $5 from the Gov't and then resell it to the Gov't for $10. Teapot Dome and all that.
Since you do not have Mob, insider information, or high level contacts much less 100 chairs that tag does not apply to you. The gov't can do anything they damn well please and make law to do it most of the time. This is one of those times.
Also, it is illegal for a business to re/sell the mattress without a tag. It is perfectly legal for you or me to cut it off once we have it home. Yes, I asked the fire marshal. I just had to know.
