martelvonc: (So I don't kill.....)

Keep your fingers crossed, say a prayer, or sound a mantra but I am finally getting around to starting the small knitted medieval design purse kit that I bought from [livejournal.com profile] caemfind at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival last May. The colors are a dark green and an off white. I have of course lost the front card that had a photo of a finished purse for reference. It's somewhere in my paperwork. blech. I've never done two color knitting before.

I have to keep reminding myself...don't pull the traveling strands too tight! So far so good. The tube is appearing and it is not a mobius! Go me! I won't be carrying this project around as I have to concentrate so hard on the chart and the two strands of string I can't really take it as a casual project. I'm up to row 5 now in 1 1/2 hours of work.

I'm determined to do this. I want the little purse and so I shall have it! By Gum!

I'll post pictures when I get a few more rows done and there is something to see.

Update* this morning I was able to knit one row of 72 stitches in only 20 minutes!

You have the disease....knitting-itis.
Welcome to my world.

It's not such a bad disease. At least I get stuff and not just used kleenex. Ewwwwww!

You're a much braver woman then I am! Two colors. Far beyond my abilities!

Good luck and I will think good thoughts for you.

Let's hold judgement on just how far my abilities go until we see if I actually get a little bag! ;-)

I love working in multiple colors.

Don't be afraid! If you are willing to knit anything regardless of how badly it comes out then you will get the hang of it.

It does not take as long as you think for it to become automatic pilot.

This little bag is really little, about 4"x6". I thought start small and finish fast for instant gratification but I forgot to figure into the equation these are like size one needles! Doh!

My CTS is not going to be pleased! :-)

Cool! You're knitting my bag! I can send you another photo if you want. I could e-mail it to you except that I'm terribly awful at this technical stuff. (Don't laugh! I learned to type on a manual machine in high school!) So if you will give me your snail mail I'll get one to you.

If the kit proves too much you might just try it with larger yarn on larger needles and get used to it all that way. Someone in our Barony knitted a HUGE relic purse for someone else to use toting around a six pack. Or a larger version might make a neat pillow.

Thanks! but I should be a good doobee and dig out the one I have. If I can't find it by the wekend I'll drop you a line.

It's a nice little bag and I look forward to finishing it. Good suggestion, I think I will try your pattern again in larger yarn for the second one.

I am dumbfounded by projects that have multiple colors! Two is chalangeing enough but 3 or more! Whew!

It gets easier with practice. I've got 6 new relic purse patterns that I need to knit and get photographed so I can print a new booklet and make up the kits. Hopefully soon! Can't wait to see you purse when it's done!

I'm game, just not sure how it would translate to a class. Let's talk!

I'm good at structuring classes - and again, I'm local. Let me know if I can help.

I wasn't thinking of the structure of the class so much as the content and the nature of knitting being the kind of thing that works a lot better one on one for technique stuff. It's pretty easy to explain how to do two color knitting but people will have to have the experience of doing it to really get it. I've taught knitting classes on and off for about 30 years and over 4-6 people in a group makes it really difficult. I'm thinking maybe we need to do knit nights at my house or something like that which will make it a longer term project and much more likely to be of use to everyone who's interested.

I agree, knitting is a hard thing to teach in groups. I've been watching one recently thinking the same thing, that tutorials really work best.

Relax, stay loose, that's knitting....remember to breathe...there is plenty of yarn and your hands can relax. You're safe.

Let me know if I can be of help. I've been knitting since I was about seven, and I'm local.
