Here are the first photos of my teeny tiny knitting project. I printed the chart off at work on card stock so that I can use a yellow highlighter on the rows I've completed. I do this for all counted work I do because I get lost in the pattern if I don't.

Sounds familiar... the one last month was the first in a *long* time for me. I *thought* I'd make it this month, but DH is out of town, so that means I've got the kids all day - and they've stuff going on until a bit after 1pm at least right now. :-(

It's so small and working from a counted chart is kind of like embroidery to me rather than knitting. It's fun so far.

I don't know if I'd like it so much in a big sweater though.
I like the smallness of the project. It's threads and the object.

Great progress!! It is sort of like wrestling an octopus until the tube starts to get a little length on it. If you were to do it in a sweater it would be much, much bigger and much easier to see!

I guess really it's the thread jogs across the back. Those give me the heebee-geebees. I think it's my embroidery sensibilities that keep screaming at me. :-)

You know, I don't think I do actually. It should be a reverse color image of the front but will have those drifts of color. I usually cross twist the threads every 3-4 stitches so I don't pull it too tight across long sections. The worst thing with this kind of knitting is getting the tension right. If the threads on the back get too tight they will pucker the front. The good thing is that the knitting doesn't need to stretch since it isn't a garment. It's going to be lined when you're done anyway. Blocking will usually minimize the places where two needles came together. If they don't look too good I use the tip of one needle to sort of work the excess into the stitches on either side until it isn't very noticeable. Wool works well because it's so much more forgiving! The problem with cotton is the lack of springiness that would make these places way less obvious. When I've used silk I find it less of a problem because of the slippery aspect of the silk. It tends to sort of tension itself without too much trouble. Are you coming to University? Maybe we could meet and I could have something to show you the back of by then. Heh, it will make me get to work on the new purses!

I should also have said that the silk I use is buttonhole twist. The Gemstone silks from Halcyon work up a lot more like cotton because they don't have that smooth shiny finish.
