As I posted earlier I did indeed outsmart the virus that invaded my home and was able to attend the second anniversary of my investiture.
The day started out chilly but clear and sunny and was that way most of the day. We were a little distressed as it is tradition that we have snow for Birthday. It's a sign of good luck!
Our very first baronial investiture was snowed out of the site and the entire event moved down the road to the home of Master Chirhart and Mistress Bec where Heinrich and Barbara were indeed invested.
The theme was chivalric love and we had many activities to highlight that. There was a love poetry contest, the children made commissioned valentines to raise money for their craft supplies, the bardic bear pit showed off the talent of 6wonderful performers. Please note that I am an evil Baroness and my twisted imagination know no bounds...
I was asked by Lord Richard Wyn to challenge the performers skill...and I did.
I asked the 6 to present themselves and then told them I wished them to perform a passage from one of the plays from that new upstart playwrite from England. Shakespeare, I think Richard said he name was. Anyway, since I could not expect them to know the entire script they had 10 minutes to confer together and, since the theme of the day was love, perform the balcony scene from "Romeo and Juliet"...in mime.
Lord Richard honored me with many bows and exclamations of "I am not worthy Your Excellency! I am not Worthy!" :-)
The entrants did indeed show they were performers of the highest caliber in working together, some having never seen the others perform before.
For the finals I was asked again to challenge the two finalists. I confired with the other entrants and we decided the finalist had to instantly produce a Short Haiku (5/7/5) with love as the theme.
Lane was the winner as she was the fastest with her haiku for the love of her pooch!
The feast was really good! I was treated to mushrooms in a sauce of brie and white wine.
bronx_baroness made a lovely tray of sugared and glazed fruit. Master Chirhart and the Cooks guild presented the hall with a whole roast suckling pig being ridden by a jousting roast duck! It was paraded around the hall to the applause of the populace. It was cooked to perfection and I snuck out to the kitchen later to nibble on the crispy skin that was left! I missed the orange chicken as by the time that dish came out I was stuffed!
From the merchants I picked up another larger tankard from Edric. I was looking for another mug but had to try them all out to find just the right handle. I loves his pottery.
As my court started the call went out that it was indeed starting to snow! It did not stick to the roads at all but could be actually seen clinging to the cars. Tradition was satisfied! Bright Hills will have a healthy successful year!
More will come as I process it out.
