One more area CLEAN!
Apr. 26th, 2009 07:23 amYesterday saw me and the kids clean out the front entrance coat closet that had become a hazard to personal safety. Stuff spilled out into the foyer, was falling off the top shelf, the doors would not shut properly, the floor was full of sand, dirt and dog hair.
We pulled EVERYTHING out and into the living room. We were merciless in our purging of unused stuff and feathers. Old coats, sweaters, boots, jackets, hats, and scarves. It got loaded into bags for the goodwill store. I moved a basket for umbrella's walking sticks etc. to the right hand side out of the way and the closet works much better now. I did find that I need to purchase some spare folding umbrellas for the hat/scarf box.
At one point in the process we were almost emotionally overwhelmed by the chaos in the living room. Then when we started putting the good things back into the closet and the kids were impressed it could be neat again.
I'm very proud of everyone in the house. They all gave up something they don't wear anymore. The closet looks great!
Today I purge the small hall closet that has become an accumulator of junk and in no way resembles the linen closet it is supposed to be. The sheets and towels and blankets are all over the house and not in this closet. Today it ends.
Another cleaning issue:
I've started collecting all the household cleaning products and tools into a central storage bin. Our problem is since it is all over the house we never know what we have. Then we need something, think we we don't have any and go to the store to buy it, only to find a duplicate after we get home. Products dry out or spill and much money is being wasted.
When it is all found I will condense the repeat, partial used, products into fewer containters.
(How many bottles of Windex or Pine Sol does one family actually need at one time?)
Fly Lady is right. Baby steps. Baby steps.
