I have marudai goodness!

I could not wait to use it. I still need to apply a nice finish.

After gluing the whole thing together last night I set it up this morning to start braiding. First braid will be a simple 8 thread, 2 color twist in blue and white that I will make into award cords for the kingdom. Each will get a magnetic clasp (bring the ends close together and they grab) and a jumpring to hang medallions from.

I've got two lengths done on the foam disc and this one will be my third. It's nice to do while listening to TV.

The ones that I've seen don't have a 'finish' on them. Perhaps a light oil? Not a lot of glossy stuff, nope. It will just wear off as you use it.

U.S. books say no finish but Japanese references show they come in all sorts and shades of wood, brown, and finishes.

I'm going to either use tung oil or a very light beeswax to just bring up the color of the wood.
