Now that I have gotten over the minor trauma that was the mud. I will wax fondly on the display that was A&S yesterday. As you all know I love A&S competitions and displays. I am always amazed at the sorts of things that artisans decide that they just to have for their very own.

I had the honor of judging some A&S yesterday 2 of which were needlework! Woo Hoo! Now not that the other items were not wonderful but I have a soft spot in my heart for embroidery.

Bookbinding in various and sundry forms is beginning to be come popular. This is a nifty craft that can be easily adapted to our used in the sca. In period these overs were permanently attached to the book but with a small change you can retain the "period" look and have the cover be removable and reusable. On display there was a lovely hand printed and bound book of poems in honor of TRH Robert and Denise. There was also a first effort of a leather girdle book.

Karen Larsdatter has made the most wonderful little book cover, surface embroidered with a strawberry design, on green cotton velvet. Next time you see her ask her to show it to you. It's very nice!

A wonderful hand carved oak misericord was entered. I love these as they are like little treasures. You don't realise they are there until you lift the seat!

When you attend an event in the future, please stop by the A&S competitions and displays. See what is being made and read the research that is with these items. You'll learn a thing or two you didn't know before.
If you see something you really liked leave a token or a note. Artisans appreciate that someone noticed their work and left a thought about it.

A token could be a pin, or a button or a hand made bead. Maybe a shell or a turned and polished stone, or something you make especially for leaving as tokens. Just a small thing that says "Hey, I think what you made is nifty!"

Remember everything we are visually in the SCA is because of the artisans hard work. The armour and weapons, the garb and the accessories, the scrolls and calligraphy, the chair covers and the feast gear, the pillows and the banners. the list goes on and on.

So hurry out and hug your local artisan. They will be very happy you noticed!
