Notes from a simple costumer.
Aug. 30th, 2005 10:04 amThis morning I put trim on an Anglo-Saxon tube dress for Aelfwynn.
Now this would not be so remarkable except for the fact that this is the second time I have done this in the past month. The first time I put on the trim and found that I has mis-measured how much I would need by 2 feet. Yep, 2 feet, 24 inches.
When I went to buy this trim the first time I wanted it for two tube dresses. one for me and one for Aelfwynn. How hard can it be to measure two straight lines? I got home all excited that I found trim in a perfectly matching blue color, sat down at my sewing machine and started to stitch away. I got my tube dress done and was very happy with how it looked. I then started to work on Aelfwynns and D**N!
So I went on line to the merchant from whom I purchased the first piece. They did not carry the blue any longer. Oh, they had the same trim in 4 other colors, just not in blue.
Now Aelfwynn, being an easy going sort who was just glad I would make her favorite camping garb, said that we could put the trim gap in the back and no one would notice.
Beh...I would notice.
She cheerfully wore her tube dress all through pennsic until it was too soiled to get away with it any longer. Then we went shopping and I hoping against all hope checked all the merchants selling trim with no luck what-so-ever. Then I walked into Calontir Trim. Who I knew from thier web site ALSO carried this trim but ALSO in every color but blue. Erica says lets try here anyway Mom! I was skeptical but what the hay! Sure enough they HAD IT and in the color I needed! I did not care what they wanted for it. I would pay anything! As it was I only had to pay $1.25 a yard.
My costumer sensibilities are now appeased and Aelfwynn has trim all way 'round!
I am still amazed that after 27 years I'm allowed out without a handler.....
