What a weekend.
Sep. 12th, 2005 07:25 amWe had a good weekend, well, except for Aelfwynn. Her weekend could have been better but we try.
I was finally able this year to attend the annual auction at my mom's retirement community. They hold this auction every year to sell furniture, stuff and appliances that have been donated to them by folks moving in who don't have room for everything and from families that have have a resident pass and they don't want all the stuff. It's always held on the second Saturday in September. It's done country style in that most of the stuff is outside on the parking lot and the auctioneer walks around with his speaker system and his cane and auctions the stuff row by row.
This year I hit the jackpot! I got a slightly used working dishwasher for $50, a 28" Zenith TV for Aelfwynn for $30.00, an old singer sewing machine and boxes of attachements and gee gaws for $10.00, and BEST of all I got a beautifull gold couch that looks almost brand new for 2 bucks! Yep, you heard me, I now have sofa goodness in my living room for $2.00. It matches my drapes and even makes my LR carpet look almost respectable!
We had much fun. The day was sunny and hot, we all got sunburned faces, and we met alot of really nice people. I sure want to go next year and see if I can get a couple of upholstered chairs or a recliner for the living room. They had a BUNCH of recliners this year but my pocket money ran out before they got to the one I was looking at. They even auctioned off a 1986 toyota pickup truck for $425.00.
We got what we wanted and were packing the cars when Aelfwynn was carrying a largish box. She couldn't see her feet and stepped off the sidewalk into the grass and fell, twisting her ankle badly and taking the skin off of her other knee. We ended up taking her to the emergency room to be sure she didn't break anything in her foot. Thank goodness they decided it was just sprained and to keep it wrapped and use crutches for a week. This will be interesting as she lives on the top floor and has to climb 4 flights of stairs to get there.Fortunatly the college has an on call shuttle that she can use to get her back and forth to class for a while.
Okay so we had more fun than Aelfwynn but even she admits it was a good day until the end....
