Ahhhhh, the sand, walking along the water, searching for treasures, listening to the sound of the surf with your eyes closed, baking like a rock in the sun, clearing my mind of worry and stress.
I can make trim myself! In the colors that I want!
Goofy, goobery, animals that love love you no matter what. They are sad to see you go and ALWAYS glad when you come back.
Pretty medieval pictures, some with serious themes and some with incredibly silly themes.
Stiff and prickly at first but after a few washings it becomes soft and comfortable.
Maybe if we study the past we can be sure it's not forgotten. Hand crafts and thier place in history need to be passed on to the future.
They were fashionista just the same as we were today if not worse.
You gotta love a culture that embroiders and wears comfy clothing.
Just like a treasure hunt. It's especially good when you find a good thing when you are looking for something completely different.
Hmmm silk, very beautiful but very delicate. Ohhhh the colors!

Date: 2005-09-22 01:55 am (UTC)I'm still doing my best to avoid being sucked in by tablet weaving, or any other variation of weaving that would take a bit more time and space away from the stitching I still get none done of (well, other than at faire)... but *that* I'm tempted by. *g* Of course, it doesn't hurt that it's something that I could do "in character" on rain days as well, either. My huge, hulking frame (ok, so it's only about 38 inches across, but that's big enough) is too big to play with on rain days at MDRF.

Date: 2005-09-22 09:32 am (UTC)What I have seen for tablet weaving is a floor stand that is in effect two upright poles that you tie the two ends of tablet weaving to instead of tieing to your waist and something else.
My brother in law made a 3' board with a peg at each end for me. This is a bit more portable.

Date: 2005-09-23 02:02 am (UTC)One of these days I'll actually get interested enough to either find directions and beg my father-in-law to fashion one, or find someone who sells them reasonably.
The "loom" you describe is the only other period-type one I've come across for band weaving. Not quite as portable... or as tempting... yet... In a couple of years, when I finish my Masters, we'll see though :-)
