KASF, and all that!

I had a really good trip to KASF. Baron Heinrich Kreiner and his wife Baroness Barbara let me ride with them. Now it's true we all stayed at my sisters house about 15 min from the site, but still, Heinie did all the driving. I took my Meclizine and did not get the least bit car sick. Whoop! KASF is one of my favorite SCA events. I love to see all the new projects that people have going on. I never get tired of seeing the sorts of things and subjects that inspire people!
I was inspired by one of the children's triathlon displays to finally make myself a pair of three fingered gloves!
Highlights:
I got to see my Laurel
elfsea_escapee again! We live 7 hours apart and I miss getting to visit with her more often. I got to see the silk brocade she bought for Coronation outfits. I have serious fabric envy. I'm sorry I missed you when we left but when I looked for you I couldn't find you! :-(
isenglass took over Tempore Atlantia and I think she will do a really good job. She loves the artisans and the arts & sciences like I do and it will come out in her style as deputy. I hope everyone goes up to her and gives her a hug and offers to judge at Coronation. It will be her first time running TA.
feymaker had a very nice display of her calligraphy and illumination. She set some of her larger framed pieces on wood floor easels and this set them off to their best advantage. She also has a nice album of her work for show.
alscott93 was the best when she consented to act as my court herald at the last minute when we thought their Majesties were going to have a Great Court. She did not blink an eye about it. Very Cool!
belfebe won the Penthalon! Go you!
I got to talk to
luscious_purple about her viking wire weaving and spiral wire bead making.
attack_laurel generously gave me a blank copy of her coif pattern and took time out of her busy judging schedule to explain how to sew the coif together. I had visited her website but did not understand the fit and construction until she talked me through it. Thank you so much! This project is for a gift and I just wasn't getting it. Her explanation also helped me to know which way to lay out the embroidery motif I've designed.
It was fun getting to see Her Grace
duchessmel working diligently on her knitting!
I'm starting to get the hang of being Baroness. It still feels awkward though. I guess I feel strange letting people do "for" me as Baroness. I guess I'm afraid of taking undo advantage of people. His Highness Valharic made me laugh when after hearing me complain about forehead divots from the metal baronial coronet he turned and with a big grin said "You'll get used to it!" I hope so, I don't want to be a complete goober for the next two years!
Ah well, I need to get back to the embroidery frame. It's not stitching itself!

Date: 2007-03-06 11:20 pm (UTC)My head is large and I can't attach any padding to the coronet itself, there isn't enough room. Veils coifs etc. are the only thing saving me from gray marks on my forehead....

Believe me, you are not taking undo advantage of people. People actually want to do things for you. They also expect you to act the part of the Baroness (and they want a good show!). Give them the opportunity to do things for you. It will not only make your life easier, but people will feel special because you are giving them the chance to participate. :-)
