martelvonc: (You Can't have everything)

The kids and I are working diligently on clearing out stuff. Things of small value that we have saved for years, never used, but can't seem to let go of. I've realized that some of my collecting had to do with my anxiety attacks but I am a focused magpie. I get a hobby and go into it full force. Which is why I own pert near 75+ pairs of salt and pepper shakers shaped like seashells.

Our house is actually quite neat. Nothing that a good visit from "Merry Maids" and some new carpet would not help. So you do not notice all the extra crap we have hidden about. I just can't justify paying for a storage locker. I have a perfectly good basement, but it is not a magical pit that has no bottom. So some things must go.

Now my living room is starting to look like a yard sale. Can you hear the irony from where you are? Ah well the real yard sale is slated for Saturday, June 16th. With any luck and some judicious signage, I will be able to get rid of most of this for cash and then the rest will go off to a charity shop.

So far we have:
a nice sewing/storage table
Star Trek figures
Salt & Pepper shakers
HO trains and buildings
a Thomas the Tank Engine train set
an Air Hogs WWII plane
VHS tapes
Nice silk flower arrangements my mom and I made for a craft show that ended up being a bust. There are quite a few here of various sizes.
Some clothes
Some embroidery supplies
2 lights for attaching to book cases
2 computer monitors in good working order
1 painted magazine rack
4 tall wooden bar stools
baskets
A mini microwave
misc knick-knacks
and on and on.....

I always feel better after a purge and have since I was a kid. I'm not sure why I like it so much. Maybe it's because I get a feeling of accomplishment when other things in my life sometimes don't go the way I'd like. Cleaning I have control of. Or maybe it's just a good thing to clear out.

It doesn't always have to have some deep meaning. :-)

Put the Star Trek figures on Ebay - more money there than at a yard sale.

Give Logan the Thomas the Tank set - he's a complete Thomas Head.

Give me a kick in my butt to start weeding out also, would you?

Nah, I sold what I could on ebay. The rest I'll let go for the 4.50 each I paid for them if I can.

Here you go!
*kick*kick*kick*
One for each cheek and one for good luck! LOL!

Some things that I tell you all not to buy that I finally cleared out from my early days.

Some of it is also stuff my mom picks up for me because "it's needlework stuff right?"

I'll take the trains and Thomas stuff - my boy is deeply into trains.

The trains are electric HO and the houses are HO scale.
The Thomas is a large scale battery operated train set with track in it's box. Drop me your email and I'll send you a picture.

I'd like some of the salt & pepper shakers. The cafeteria at work keeps claiming ours from our break room because (I guess) they look like theirs. Might even be theirs, but still.

What price are you putting on them, and can you bring some to HRMelees? I'll be in the thrown weapons area all day so I'm easy to find.

I'd like $5.00 a pair. What kind of shells do you like. They are all seashell shaped. Big ones, small ones, natural colored, not so natural colored, LOL!

I'm a beach person and I love seashell S&P shakers but I have to thin out the collection.

Pretty much whatever kind of shell is fine. I just want something that is unique enough that the cafeteria won't take them. :)

You might want to try selling on eBay with the shakers. You'd be surprised how much you can get for "collectables".
