martelvonc: (Can't you find something useful?)

Remember how, like, I was being virtuous and Laurely like, and stuff?
The hand sewing and the repairing and the projects?

Well, I fell off the wagon last weekend.

It all started...
When we went down to the Outer Banks,
AND the ONLY knitting store was still in business,
AND the Knight was willing to let me wander in there to my hearts content,
(bless you free wi-fi, a fancy I-Pod touch, and a comfy chair he could sit in)
AND they were selling this cute little pattern for a cute little bag purse,
AND they were selling the yarn to make the cute little bag purse,
AND they had the knitting needles I needed to start the cute little bag purse.

I couldn't just LEAVE it there now could I?

What?

I did make one SCA related project this week. I made myself an arrow mop in my heraldic colors. After shooting in the down pour rain at the Barony of Lochmere investiture last fall and having no where to clean my arrows of the gawd awful mud except to wipe them off with my hand, I decided to make myself one of those useful gee-gaws. Not historically accurate but useful none the less.

So there, I can look at chickens if I like....

And you get to keep the needles and the pattern for future use! How practical is that?

Yea! That's it! I'm being practical!

Hey - you were on VACATION! You ARE allowed to leave your laurel leaves at home *sometimes*, you know. ;)

It IS a cute little purse made of 2 types of cotton yarn knit together. :-)

Love, love, love the rationalization! It sort of explains why I bought 4 new sock yarns a couple of weeks ago when I haven't knitted all that I've got. But, but...they were *pretty*!!

Second only to me! I've had over half a century to make a sort of art form of it. Do they give Laurel's for that sort of thing... :-)

They jolly well should!

Oh, and they discontinue colorways ALL the time. They might not have been there when you finally were ready to do the project, right? ;-D

Or you could get ready to do a project and discover that all those balls of matching yarn aren't in the same dye lot. But it was such a good deal you just didn't check. Ask me how I know. :-)

Um... only? Now I'm wondering where you stay...

I know of two - open year 'round:
http://www.knittingaddiction.com/ (up near the bridge)
http://kimbeeba.com/default.aspx (in Manteo... which also happens to do spinning and weaving... and um, yeah, I'm in trouble if I figure out exactly where they moved to... yes, I saw the new address, and I'm trying to forget it now :-)

Um.. oh, yeah... and Fine Yarns At Kimbeeba also teaches soapmaking, spinning, tatting, dyeing, and bookbinding now... (yeah, yeah... gotta forget that address... and the fact that it's still pretty near that quilting shop, and Festival Park, etc., etc....)

Yep, Knitting Addiction. Southern Shores, where KA is located, is where we are going to retire.

Ah. I haven't managed to get there yet - for some reason I used to be able to make it to the stitching place that was at MP 5, but nearly never anything above that, during our 1-2 weeks each year. Mostly due to the fact that my family has been renting a place a little south of the Outer Banks Fishing Pier every year since the mid 70s sometime. Manteo, on the other hand, gets visited several times every trip, for various reasons - though general shop visiting has only happened the last year or two.

If you haven't visited the shop there, and you find the time, you should do so. I was impressed with it (website says that they're by the Pioneer Theater now - so they haven't moved far at all - since they were in the shops behind there last year)... curious whether the new place is same size, larger or smaller. Guess I'll find out in a few months :-)

Try hitting the Knitting Addiction. The ladies are very nice there and they have free wi-fi to entertain the husbands.... :-)

I keep trying to... just the few times I've been *that* far north I've had bad timing. And it takes almost as long to get up there now as it did before they put in the bypass... well, maybe not *all* the time, but sometimes it sure seems like it.

Meanwhile, at least there's Manteo (takes *maybe* 15 minutes from the cottage to downtown).

Warning! warning! Mme Martelle

Oh might that be Knitting Addiction???? I went into look around with a knitter friend and walked out $120 poorer. But the shawl I made is awesome. ;-) A very dangerous place!!
