Well the contact lens thing has gone so well that I kinda was bad....

I put them in about 6am this morning and only just took them out at 8:30 PM. They felt fine no irritation, no blurred vision. Wore em' like I'd been wearing them for years. In fact if I didn't know differently I'd swear there was nothing there at all. Very comfortable.

I did have trouble getting the left lens in this morning. It just would not stick to my eye ball. Right one, boom, right in. Left one, was a pain in the butt. I finally got it to attach itself to my eyeball and all was well. I see I'll have to allow extra time in the morning in case this happens again.

It was nice to lounge in bed and watch TV without glasses perched on the very end of my nose.

I used to put a drop of saline solution in my eye and one on the eye-side of the lense, wait a second, and then pop it onto the eye. You don't want to the lens or the eye too wet, nor do you want them to be completely dry. A happy medium.

It's if the eye swells up and won't accept the contact AT ALL that the problems happen . . .

I don't think my eye was swollen but I'll try the saline solution trick. That didn't occur to me at the time. Practice, practice, practice.

use a drop of saline or rewetting drops to help lubricate for the insertion.. be really careful about leaving the contacts on your eyes for too long (no sleeping in them or napping unless they are extended wear). I made the mistake of taking daily wear and sleeping in them for days on end. I decided I wanted laser surgery and when they did the exam, they found I had blood vessels growing on the outside of my eyes because the vessels were oxygen starved. That's a BAD (very bad) thing. It can lead to permanent blindness (which might explain why my eyesight has gotten VERY bad, very quickly). It happens more often than you realize, so please take care and don't let this happen to you.

Yeah, I was warned about not wearing them over night. Good advice.

I second that!

I've been wearing lenses since I was 14, and the dr's have told me I do have some vessel growth, but nothing that would damage my eyes. I have disposables that I *could* wear 24/7, but I don't.

It does get better with practice, but when I first got contacts I allowed about 10 extra minutes in the morning to make sure I had time to cope with recalicitrant lenses. It may or may not help to see if you can be ambidextrous putting in your lenses; I found I could aim better using my left hand for my left eye. It also helps to face down rather than straight ahead so the lens isn't trying to fold over from gravity.

Oh! Face down! I didn't think to try that. Thanks!
