Just last night I was saying that I will be glad when it's time for us to move to the Outer Banks.
Our lot is on the lee side of very tall dune on a Cul-de-sac. There is little to no traffic noise even in the height of tourist season. There is also very little ambient light at night.
Our current neighborhood is very noisy with fire dept., police and ambulance traffic due to the connecting road we live near for Liberty Rd (where the hospital is) and Reisterstown Rd. Then there is the occasional 18 wheeler traffic and commuter traffic. It is also never dark where I live. Between street lights and city lights our nights have an eery glow at even 2:00am.
Let's not discuss the knuckleheads who feel the need to fire off guns on new years eve. We also have folks in our area who like to have loud stereo parties on the weekends. I can hear them from 3 blocks away.
Then there is the regular household noises. The fridge, fans, hums, computers, fish tanks, dishwashers etc. The Son and I don't even listen to the radio or watch TV during the day now. I'd like a little more quiet but it is difficult in our modern world. It all wears a person down.
I don't need or want total silence in my world but a little peace and quite can do a soul good.
