Idle hands...
Apr. 4th, 2005 04:42 pmToday I finished another of my "Leprosy Bandages" and started my third.
Yup, you heard right.
I found a charity run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). They collect hand knitted or crocheted bandages for 3rd world countries. These bandages are for leprosy patients to wrap thier feet and legs in. You garter stitch knit or single crochet 3-4" wide by 4' long bandages out of white/off white/ecru bed spread cotton. No colors please. Pack them in a ziplock sandwich bag with a large safety pin or diaper pin and mail them to Utah. These bandages don't have to be perfect. So knitters of any skill level can contribute to this cause.
This seemed like the perfect project for a Medieval Lady to do in her service to the "Church and those less fortunate". Leprosy being what it was in the middle ages and all. I take my knitting to events and I have a
medieval cause to knit for. :-)
So when you see me at events knitting away on THE biggest darned garters you've EVER seen this is what I'm actually doing.
Check out the site:

They have all sorts of projects that can be done. Good ideas for Girl/Boy Scout troops or for community service projects.
Nope not I'm not a Mormon but I know a good cause when I see one.
